A contributing factor to his success in this respect

was the fact that I have been in indifferent health during

the last two years and owing to the undue and extr elle pressure under which I have been working during the past eighteen month, culminating in my detention in the Goverment

civil Hospital.

I would point out, however, that with a properly instituted system of book-keeping attached to the Head Bailiff's office and in charge of a competent European book-

keeper, this leakage could not have occurred, In the past and in normal times, I have contrived to keep touch with receipts and expenditure but under conditions which have prevailed during the last eighteen months, the work has fallen behind from time to time being such that no one man in my position unaided could cope with satisfactorily. In the fact that I have struggled to do so to the detriment of my health, and in this instance of failure, you may possibly

find me fallible.

Position regarding present shortage of money owed by

Auctioneering & Brokering Company.

As far as I am able to ascertain at the moment, this

company owes the Court approximately $27,000.00. Per contra, the company have expended in the upkeep of the "Ling Nam" approximately $22,000.00.

I have to state with full knowledge that it conflicts with your opinion that this sum of approximately $22,000.00 was expended through me in my capacity as Head Dailiff and was supplied by the Auctioneering and Brokering Company on

y just and necessary requisition for the upkeep of the "Ling Nam".

Mr. Hodge informs me that upon receiving your written
